HR and Business Operations Associate

School of Information Sciences


Job Summary

Support the HR and business operations of the School of Information Sciences by performing and coordinating human resources and finance responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Human Resources Operations (55%) 

  • Work as a member of the iSchool HR team to provide timely, efficient appointment processing, including insight and recommendations, for assigned employee groups, e.g., Services in Excess, postdocs, adjuncts, and graduate assistantships.
  • Work with ISSS and as a member of the iSchool HR team to support timely applications for assigned work authorizations such as J-1 visas and green cards. 
  • Process appointments for summer salaries for faculty/specialized faculty, ensuring that the correct research accounts have been charged and that the appointments comply with relevant University policies such as effort reporting. 
  • Support compliance activities such as ethics and nondiscrimination training by tracking and following up as needed with employees and stakeholders to ensure timely completion of these important mandates. 
  • Process HR-related transactions in Banner such as earnings redistributions and FMLA usage, tracking usage as required. 
  • As part of a team, ensure personnel records are filed and maintained. 

Business Operations (45%)

  • Assist with and provide guidance as applicable to the iSchool Research Services and Informatics staff about performing financial transactions, referring issues to other iSchool Finance team members when needed.
  • Monitor and track travel expenditures.
  • Provide administration and tracking of gift funds.
  • Work as a team member to provide financial support for assigned iSchool workshops/events and university awards to faculty/staff (development, grants, travel awards).
  • Provide guidance to staff who make purchases, such as on p-cards.

Additional Physical Demands

Work is performed in a typical office environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties and/or business duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Human Resources experience

Knowledge of applicable University policy and procedures.

Working knowledge of University HR and finance systems such as HRFE, Tracker I-9, Banner, P-card, and Chrome River.

Analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a self-directed manner, maintain productivity in both quantity and quality of work, and appropriately organize and prioritize work.
Ability to understand and abide by a high standard of professional ethics.


Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 1/1/2024. Salary range for this position is $50,000-$55,000, final salary is commensurate with experience.
