A successful candidate will produce internal communications aimed at staff and affiliate audiences, support executive communications; manage outreach activities such as NCSA facilities tours; and maintain communications platforms, including publication standards. Duties & Responsibilities
Internal Communications:
- Produce and publish announcements and news that impacts or is of interest to NCSA staff, faculty affiliates and student interns via print and digital channels.
- Manage and produce weekly staff newsletter, including developing story ideas, writing and editing, and managing production using email platform.
- Maintain NCSA website and Marketing and Communications wikis, including updating content and processes for regular assessment.
- Support Marketing and Communications leadership in production of the NCSA annual report and other executive communications.
- Collaborate with NCSA Marketing and Communications team members to best leverage shared assets and messaging among different audiences.
- Work with external partners to coordinate amplification of shared news items.
- Guide projects from start to finish and provide updates to the Marketing and Communications team using project management tools.
Community Engagement: - Under direction of the Marketing and Communications director, support planning and execution of NCSA events such as All-Staff meetings, including developing communications assets and announcements.
- In coordination with other NCSA staff, manage NCSA tours program, including developing protocols and communications assets and guiding tours on a regular basis.
MarComm Support:
- Support Assistant Director of Marketing as needed in developing and executing stakeholder communications plans.
- Edit and proofread materials as needed by the department.
- Provide event support including conference attendance as needed.
- Maintain adherence to brand style guidelines set forth by the NCSA MarComm leadership in cooperation with University style.
- Support other team members with drafting communications as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
- Two (2) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area, which included writing, editing or publications management.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of professional work experience in writing, editing, marketing, public relations, communications, community engagement, or a related professional area, which included writing, editing or publications management.
- Experience as a writer or editor in print, digital or broadcast media.
- Experience in internal communications with a public relations firm or a large institution.
- Experience working at a university or other large non-profit agency, including working with executives.
- Experience in community engagement/working with the general public.
- Experience with WordPress and other communications platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional communication skills, including proven ability to understand and clearly communicate complex technical or scientific information to general audiences, both in writing and verbally.
- Understanding of internal communications best practices.
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to build and manage positive working relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
- Excellent organizational skills, with proven ability to manage multiple projects, processes and deadlines simultaneously using a variety of technologies.
- Ability to take direction as well as work independently in a diverse, sometimes fast-paced hybrid environment of in-person and remote work.
- Familiarity with writing in AP Style.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after November 1. 2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
