Position: The Department of Curriculum & Instruction is seeking a full-time specialized faculty member at the rank of instructor or lecturer.  This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position with an additional summer month appointment, as needed.

Position Description: The Department of Curriculum & Instruction possesses an outstanding reputation in the areas of early childhood and teacher education. We seek a colleague who will join our department and College of Education to engage in teaching that will create transformative learning experiences for students and impact society. We seek candidates with expertise in early childhood education (birth through grade 2). Teaching assignments will primarily focus on reading and language arts methods courses in the online early childhood licensure program with other Curriculum & Instruction courses assigned based on candidate’s additional areas of expertise.

Qualifications: An earned master’s degree in literacy education or a related field is required. Candidates at the instructor level must have an earned master’s degree at the time of hire. Candidates at the lecturer level must have an earned doctorate at the time of hire. A minimum of three years teaching experience (or documented equivalent) with students in the range of PreK – 2nd grades is required. Experience in the use of technology for instructional delivery, including online course delivery is required.

Preferred Experience: We prefer candidates who have the following qualifications: (1) earned doctorate in literacy or early childhood education; (2) five years of teaching experience in PreK-2nd grades; (3) significant experience in multicultural and diverse educational settings; (4) demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teacher preparation and working with diverse populations; (5) prior university teaching experience; (6) expertise in additional content areas such as math, social studies, or science; and (7) experience with Canvas.

Responsibilities: Our new colleague will be expected to (1) develop and teach undergraduate courses related to early childhood literacy; (2) contribute to the ongoing development of undergraduate programs; and (3) provide service at state and local levels related to early childhood education.

Salary and Starting Date: Salary will be commensurate with experience. The proposed starting date is January 1, 2024.
