Job Summary
As part of the Live Events Delivery sub-unit, plays a crucial role in the dynamic and fast-paced Gies Studio Complex, ensures smooth technical operations and provides comprehensive support. A multitasking role, leveraging the skills of a Master Control Operator, Director, Producer, and Engineer on a captivating news/talk broadcast set. Using cutting-edge network-based media technologies, responsible for controlling studio lights, PTZ cameras, microphones, audio routing and processing, video switching software and hardware, multiple display routing and management, as well as teleprompter support. Train and support instructional teams in a professional studio environment.Duties & Responsibilities
- Broadcast Production
● Operate studio equipment efficiently and accurately.
● Maintain contact with Synchronous Course Facilitators (SCF).
● Address technical issues promptly, professionally, and effectively.
● Troubleshoot and develop solutions for technical challenges. - Broadcast Pre- and Post-production
● Develop presets for broadcast production.
● Coordinate with Synchronous Course Facilitators to curate instructor content for use during broadcasts.
● Assist Synchronous Course Facilitators in creating live session delivery plans.
● Coordinate with faculty to understand unique studio requirements.
● Manage, organize, and preserve all files associated with each recorded live session. - Training
● Provide shadowing for newly hired Specialists and Associates.
● Lead the development and maintenance of internal and external process documentation.
● Develop faculty-facing documentation for working with the Teaching & Learning Live Studio staff. - Supervision & Coordination
● Supervise, mentor, and assign work to hourly Live Studio staff.
● Mentor assigned Associates.
● Conduct one-on-one meetings with assigned hourly Live Studio staff. - IT Systems and Support
● Stay informed and up to date on software updates and operations, including vMix live video production software, integration with Zoom Video Conferencing, and related productivity and graphics software.
● Maintain and monitor equipment to ensure smooth Live Sessions and recommend solutions to challenges.
● Assist Studio Technologies Coordinator in installing and implementing new studio technologies. - Communication
● Follow session assignments from Senior Studio Manager and other senior team members.
● Provide regular progress updates to direct supervisor, Project Manager, and relevant team members regarding any anticipated or realized issues with Live Session delivery. - Other Duties
● Participate in professional development activities.
● Perform other assigned duties as required.
Additional Physical Demands
Position involves lifting up to 50 pounds for movement and placement of production equipment.Position involves remaining stationary or frequent movement for extended periods during field recordings and occasional live events.
Minimum Qualifications
- Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:
A. course work in communications, broadcasting, graphic design, journalism, video production or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
B. experience in audio-visual materials preparation, instructional communications, industrial communications, installation, use, or modification of recording equipment or closely related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
• Proficiency in digital media production and delivery.
• Experience with live video production software, specifically vMix.
• Familiarity with video and audio editing software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
• Knowledge of Video over IP and network connectivity.
• Ability to troubleshoot WAN, LAN, and internet connectivity issues.
• Familiarity with NDI interface, such as SDI, HDMI, and Dante.
• Continual education in NDI Tools, Dante, vMix, and other IP video network applications.
• Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Industry experience in broadcast communications operations.
• Strong organizational skills and adherence to naming and folder hierarchy standards.
• At least 1 year of experience delivering synchronous instructional content with teaching faculty in a higher education environment.
• Certification in IT, media, broadcast communications, or related field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of systems and operations relevant to the areas and departments of responsibility. Ability to oversee and coordinate activities of user groups. Effective and professional communication and interaction with staff at all levels and customer groups. Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve technical issues. Fundamental knowledge of effective troubleshooting methodologies.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2504 - Multimedia Communications Specialist position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 9/26/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
