The Foreign Language Teacher Education (FLTE) program at the University of Illinois is seeking up to three Adjunct Instructors (Master’s or ABD) / Adjunct Lecturer (Phd) to serve as Student Teaching Supervisors for Spring 2024. The Student Teaching Supervisor will work with and support the development of FLTE Teacher Candidates as they undergo clinical practice during Spring Semester 2024, with a start date of January 2, 2024.
Duties & Responsibilities
The focus of the Supervisor’s work will revolve around observing instructional delivery in the classroom and providing feedback to the assigned Teacher Candidates on teaching performance, planning, assessment, and student engagement. In addition, the Supervisor is responsible for liaising with Cooperating Teachers to discuss Teacher Candidate growth and development and any areas of concern or deficiency; assessing Teacher Candidate performance at regular intervals throughout the semester using the Danielson Framework; and conducting periodic three-way conferences with the Teacher Candidate and Cooperating Teacher(s) to discuss and determine the level of Candidate instructional performance, professional growth, and development as a classroom teacher.
All new Student Teaching Field Supervisors are required to demonstrate proficiency on the Danielson Framework by undergoing and passing training in the use and application of the Danielson Framework OR demonstrating a certificate of completion of an acceptable training program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Master’s in Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related area in Education OR Master’s degree in in French, German, Spanish
- Familiarity with the Danielson Framework
- Teaching experience: K-12 classroom teacher
- Experience conducting holistic assessment and evaluation
- Experience using rubrics to assess and evaluate student performance
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or proficiency in French or Spanish
- K-12 World Language teaching experience
- Knowledge of and experience with ACTFL World Readiness Standards
- Supervisory experience such as experience as a department chair, principal, curriculum director, Student Teaching Field supervisor
- Experience as a Cooperating Teacher, mentor, or coach
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
These are part-time, Spring 2024 appointments, non-tenure track positions. Renewal of the position for future semesters is possible and contingent on availability of funding, sufficient enrollments, and positive performance reviews. The proposed start date is January 2, 2024. Salary is commensurate with experience.
