The College of Agricultural Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) seeks applications for the position of Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).  This position will report to the Dean of the college and serve as the chief diversity officer as part of the Dean’s leadership team with overall responsibility for ensuring that ACES becomes a leader in DEI. This position will work with the Dean and other college leaders to identify and implement best practices for advancing DEI efforts in organizational culture, teaching, research and public engagement.  This position will also serve as a liaison with other university entities (including the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) to ensure alignment of college and university priorities. The position carries 100% administrative responsibilities.

 

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Associate Dean for DEI include:

  •  Serve as the Chief Diversity Officer for the College of ACES and work towards energizing faculty, staff, and students to promote DEI efforts.
  •  In consultation with college leadership and stakeholders, develop charge and mission statement for College’s diversity committee.  Work with this committee to ensure DEI action plans are developed and implemented in a timely manner. Coordinate with departmental diversity committees and DEI efforts in order to facilitate knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices to provide synergy between departments
  • Work closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor of DEI, other colleges across the campus and peer institutions to coordinate and capitalize upon DEI efforts and represent ACES on campus-level committees with regard to diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing new programs for building the pipeline for recruiting, and developing and retaining a diverse faculty and staff.
  • Partner with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs to continue to build long-term relationships with minority serving institutions and community colleges to enhance student recruiting and retention. This also includes organizing and participating in the public-facing DEI efforts in ACES disciplines and ensuring ACES curriculum advances DEI.
  • Serve as Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer for the college, working closely with ACES Human Resources and the standing ACES College Diversity Committee.
  • Provide diversity and inclusion-related guidance for College of ACES’ promotion and tenure and third year reviews processes.
  • Develop and deliver diversity and inclusion training to faculty/staff/students.  Develop and provide workshops on bias in hiring; bias in promotion and tenure process; departmental climate; difficult conversations in the classroom.
  • Advise college leadership and stakeholder groups on TOP and dual career-related hiring cases.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations related to strategic recruitment incorporating diversity and inclusion.
  • Integrate diversity and inclusion into College’s fund-raising process and utilization of various funds for diversity/inclusion initiatives.
  • Analyze faculty hiring and retention data for women and underrepresented minorities for trends, and develop policy recommendations regarding recruitment and retention based on analysis of relevant data.
  • Integrate diversity and inclusion initiatives into College's Strategic Plan; lead the initiatives’ subsequent implementation.
  • Develops and implements measurable goals and metrics, and uses data, research, and evidence-based practice to identify and change systems, structures, policies, practices and individual behaviors that perpetuate systemic barriers to equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Participate in College's hiring plan development and process to integrate key diversity initiatives and guide strategic hiring. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Eligible candidates for the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion position must hold a current faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. They must demonstrate a passion and proven record of successful engagement in matters related to DEI, as demonstrated by having prior experience with diversity programming and initiatives as they relate to student/faculty experiences. Strong administrative, communication, and team building skills are required. 

 

This appointment carries a 12-month zero percent administrative stipend that is accompanied by the full-time faculty appointment. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
