Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour (Based on experience and skill level)

Job Title: Exhibit Master Woodworker
Location: Rantoul, IL 61866
Job Type: Full-time, In-person

Job Description:

Taylor Studios, Inc. is seeking a talented and experienced Woodworker to join our dynamic fabrication team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in woodworking, cabinetry, and finish carpentry, with the ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings. We value team players who are organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working with technology and various tools.

This role requires precision, creativity, and a commitment to delivering high-quality exhibit components on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute woodworking and construction tasks as assigned by the Production Supervisor
  • Cut, assemble, and finish cabinets of all types
  • Select appropriate materials and methods for each project
  • Build exhibit walls, display surfaces, and other scenic components
  • Read, interpret, and apply construction drawings accurately
  • Operate, maintain, and clean various hand and power woodworking tools and equipment
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient project completion
  • Facilitate safe, high-quality construction, installation, and maintenance of exhibit components
  • Maintain a clean and organized woodshop and enforce safe work practices
  • Apply veneers, laminates, and finishes as needed
  • Use basic math and measurements accurately to complete tasks
  • Lift up to 50 pounds when necessary
  • Occasionally travel for exhibit installation projects across the United States

Equipment experience required:
Table saw, band saw, planer, miter saw, track saw, nail guns, edge banding machine, case clamp machine, and computer proficiency. Experience with CNC routers is a plus.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in finish carpentry or woodworking
  • Scenic/themed fabrication experience (3+ years preferred)
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Skilled in advanced techniques of complex joinery
  • Have a deep understanding of different wood types, their properties, and how to select best materials for a project, including assessing factors like moisture content and knot structure
  • Strong problem-solving skills, which is crucial for tackling complex designs, troubleshooting issues and ensuring quality and precision
  • Willingness to travel and stay on-site for installations as needed

License/Certification:

  • Driver’s License
  • Architectural Woodwork Standard Certification
  • ANSI/AWI 0641 – Architectural Wood Casework
  • ANSI/AWI 0400 – Factory Finishing
  • ANSI/AWI 1232 – Millwork
  • ANSI/AWI 1235 – Specialty Items
