OSP Design Engineer
The OSP Design Engineer works with ArcGIS daily to design, edit and update fiber network maps. This position will collaborate closely with our field teams, fiber manager, and project managers to ensure network design meets required criteria. A strong engineering interest in supporting fiber to the home projects is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
Engineer outside plant fiber-optic maps for underground construction
Utilize software to edit designs as projects progress
Review utility maps (gas, power, water, etc) during network design process to avoid conflicts when possible
Employ city plats and online resources when designing residential areas
Work closely with stakeholders to confirm viable paths
Conform to budget guidelines while ensuring quality and project standards are met
Communicate with permitting team, city officials, and other utility companies
Conduct field surveys to collect data and engineer potential routes
Determine duct count, vaults, and splice can requirements for each project
Find creative solutions to the challenges of route selection, network design, and ROW issues
Deliver completed project designs in a timely manner
Provide technical guidance to colleagues and other teams
Understand and implement in-field designs that meet customer needs, long-term CCG Fiber strategic goals and conform to all applicable governing regulatory bodies
Desired Skills:
Possess advanced knowledge of underground construction practices
Understanding of 811 procedures
Knowledge of various fiberoptic materials
Strong communication skills
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or 3 years of telecommunications design in lieu of degree
Minimum of 2 years in OSP engineering
Skillful use of AutoCAD and GIS software
BICSI OSP Certification
