Essential Job Functions: Complete daily cleaning tasks as established by the Custodial Supervisor. Respond to work orders on time consistent with established practices and procedures. Evaluate and report the physical condition of Parkland College property to the Custodial Supervisor. Provide cleaning support in other areas of the college during co-worker absences as needed. Awareness of potential biohazards within cleaning areas. Follow all safety guidelines and protocols when using and storing cleaning equipment, chemicals, and other supplies. Perform routine cleaning tasks, including dusting, and wiping all accessible surface areas such as furniture, floor trim, doors and door handles, light switches, and emptying/cleaning wastebaskets and other trash receptacles. Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors using tools as appropriate. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, including door glass and signage, and clean blinds. Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures. Refill and clean restroom dispensers. Maintain cleanliness of communal areas and ensure safe walkways. Assist with pest control by placing and removing traps. Participate in deep cleaning projects during school breaks, such as stripping and waxing floors or shampooing carpets. Sanitize and clean facilities for special events. Execute all duties in a timely fashion. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Previous custodial experience in residential or commercial environments or, in lieu of experience, candidates must demonstrate the ability to learn cleaning operations and maintaining cleanliness standards. Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as working in tight spaces, bending/twisting/reaching, push/pull of supply carts, vacuums, and other tools or supplies. Work in various environments including dusty areas, to clean and sanitize. Strong verbal, written, and mathematical skills for safe chemical use and effective communication to interact with college staff, respond to work orders, report issues and other department correspondence. In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
