Zekelman is seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Sales Engineer to join our team. This role is fully remote and will report directly to the Sales Engineering Manager.

Job Summary:

Promotes the use of Zekelman products with a focus on Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) by providing technical support to the design community, which includes owners, architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators and suppliers.

Job Description:

General

  • Leads and promotes healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy
  • Regular and predictable, full-time attendance during scheduled hours
  • Performs other duties as they may be assigned
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to advise both internally & externally

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of structural design
  • In-depth knowledge of HSS steel properties, specifications, design codes and applications
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Experience with engineering software is a plus
  • Provides design assistance to engineers and key decision makers
  • Sound understanding of HSS connection detailing is preferred

Sales & Communication Skills

  • Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Skilled in identifying client needs and aligning them with HSS solutions
  • Supports marketing and the development of technical content, including case studies
  • Ability to create and lead technical presentations to the design community
  • Works closely with sales on product support
  • Works closely with sales on project specific pursuits

Industry Knowledge

  • Awareness of market trends and construction cycles
  • Knowledge of competitors' offerings and differentiating factors
  • Understanding of procurement and project timelines in structural steel
  • Establish strong relationships with fabricators, engineers, architects, and general contractors

Professionalism & Credibility

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (SE PE or P. Eng), enhancing trust and credibility
  • Ethical sales approach, putting long-term relationships above short-term gains
  • Solution-oriented mindset with a focus on client success and safety
  • Active membership in industry organizations, such as ASCE, NCSEA, STI, etc.
  • Represents Atlas Tube with active involvement in associations

Organizational & Interpersonal Traits

  • Strong project management and multitasking skills
  • Responsive, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven
  • Collaborative mindset, working well with internal teams (engineering, marketing, sales)

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering
  • 10-year structural engineering experience involving structural design
  • Direct experience with connection design working for an engineering firm or fabricator/erection company is a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Working knowledge of major structural design and applications
  • Basic knowledge of detailing software
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to travel throughout the United States and Canada to meet with customers, support onsite needs, and attend key industry events.
  • Travel will vary, approx. 35%
