What you’ll do

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller owns the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions. The essential functions for this position are outlined below:

  • Oversee the company’s accounting operations, including account reconciliations, chart of accounts, internal and external financial reports, and balance sheet management
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP
  • Manage the year-end audit process and work with external auditors, and other financial service providers to prepare financial statements
  • Supervise the completion of federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements
  • Prepare all federal and state tax preparation and income tax forecasting
  • Become a subject matter expert and assist in the rollout and maintenance of new and existing software systems
  • Partner with other departments to support business initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, and provide insights and recommendations to the executive team
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting team, modeling the JSM Vision
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as needed

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA designation preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting, preferably in the real estate industry
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, chart of account management, and financial analysis
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, experience with real estate software preferred
