Purpose of Position
The Senior System Engineer supports new and existing business efforts via the application of systems engineering, project engineering, subcontractor management, and proposal preparation tasks.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Analyzes technical requirements (RFI, RFP, RFQ, etc.) for prospective projects.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to review technical requirements.
- Collaborates with Engineering to develop new design concepts to support customer requirements.
- Collaborates with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project Management to prepare cost estimates.
- Assigns technical writing tasks to internal stakeholders.
- Performs technical writing related to novel and complex requirements.
- Reviews and edits technical documents prepared by others.
- Collaborates with the Proposal Coordinator to assemble proposal materials.
- Reviews proposal documents.
- Supports the Sales team in other proposal-related duties as required.
- Develops Requirements Traceability and Verification Matrices (RTVM) for sold projects and distributes to internal stakeholders.
- Supports Project Management in preparing and tracking requirements such as CRDLs, SDRLs, DIDs, etc.
- Supports the Project Engineer in producing and conducting Design Reviews.
- Participates as a presenter and/or technical advisor in customer technical interchange meetings, audits and program reviews.
Tasks and Responsibilities Continued
- Accomplishes subcontractor/vendor technical design reviews and audits. May direct subcontractor personnel or provide in-depth analysis of subcontractor performance for progress payment purposes.
- Prepares subcontractor/vendor specifications and SOWs for RFPs and subcontracts. Performs technical evaluations of proposals received and prepares recommendations for upper management.
- Travels to customer sites and subcontractor facilities.
- Periodically analyzes gaps and non-compliance in technical proposals and submits recommendations to Management.
- Interacts daily with functional departments (Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Customer Service) in support of all duties.
- Tracks active projects and product development within the organization.
- Monitors products and announcements from vendors, regulatory bodies, and competing simulator manufacturers.
- Supports and coordinates compliance-related product testing, such as CE. Performs other testing duties as assigned.
- Performs project lifecycle analysis, including MTBF and MTTR. Implements data-driven recommendations for design and manufacturing optimization, including obsolescence management. Uses data to develop spares lists, tech refresh proposals, and other proposal artifacts.
- Supports the Hardware Engineering department with human-machine interface design requirements and improvements.
- Supports the Engineering department in monitoring and implementing industry best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience
- 5+ years of experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Military or defense industry experience is preferred.
- Must display tact and self-discipline necessary to interface effectively with customers, all levels of management, and employees.
- Strong teamwork, flexibility, organizational skills, and ability to apply critical thinking.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or with others without constant direct supervision.
- Ability to tactfully manage and direct subcontractor personnel.
