Unpaid caregivers provide up to 85% of caregiving services; one-quarter of Illinois households have a member caring for an older adult. Adults 55+ raising grandchildren face challenges too; both groups need resources and self-care. The State of Illinois offers a Caregiver Advisory service to help caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren build knowledge/skills, navigate services, access resources, and reduce stress. Our Caregiver Advisor offers support and guidance to caregivers of older adults residing in Champaign or Piatt County.Your Role as the Caregiver Advisor: Key member of our Senior Resource Center staff with variety and creativity.- Build contacts in Piatt County with organizations serving caregivers or grandparents raising grandchildren to create a robust referral network.- Connect with potential clients via social media and in-person events.- Provide clients access to information and assistance about available services.- Give instruction and training in workshops and personalized in-home meetings.- Develop and implement support groups for caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren in Piatt County (training provided).- Work with grandparents raising grandchildren on challenges such as navigating schools, technology, behavior issues, and children’s grief/frustration.- Be a reliable support person who checks in, follows up, and ensures clients aren’t alone on their caregiving journey.You’ll receive all tools and robust support from Senior Resource Center coworkers.Who You Are: Ideal Candidate: Knowledge/experience in children’s services preferred (education, CASA, DCFS, or similar helpful). Willingness to learn about social services for children for grandparents raising grandchildren works too. Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred; HS graduates with 5+ years relevant experience with aging or youth population encouraged to apply.Abilities: Cordial/friendly with clients; understanding of casework and proper documentation; organized/efficient with minimal supervision; respectful of diverse lifestyles/cultures/temperaments/needs; reliable transportation and ability to meet clients in homes, at school, or in public; can pass a background check (pending or indicated DCFS abuse/neglect disqualifies for Counseling service roles).The Family Service Culture: Family-focused and strongly service-oriented; humble and diligent workplace; thorough training; Equal Opportunity Employer.The Package: $20.00 – $23.00, commensurate with experience; full-time, 37.5 hours/week; 12 paid holidays; vacation accrual after 90 days (capped at 200 hours).
