Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure that we are providing survivor centered programming, services, and advocacy for all clients. This will be done with an understanding and knowledge of domestic violence and the multifaceted effects it has on an individual and/or family unit. Manage a client caseload with a focus on advocacy and empowerment. Assist with client support groups.

Provide outreach and advocacy to clients in our rural areas. Assist immigrant victims in adjusting to the US systems; advocate and provide information about Visas etc.
Assist clients in understanding their legal rights. Assist clients navigating the legal system. Advocate for clients and for the agency with community partners including law enforcement, the judiciary, and other community agencies. Work closely with other direct service staff to ensure the program provides excellent and consistent services. Some nights and weekends are required.

  • • Provide legal advocacy, in coordination with legal advocates, and assistance to victims of domestic violence.
  • • Accompany clients to hearings for support and advocacy as appropriate
  • • Provide interpretation within the court system and other systems as needed
  • • Engage in coordination and advocacy with officials and agencies in the criminal justice system
  • • Provide outreach and advocacy to our outlying counties and rural areas as needed
  • • Coordinate service and safety plans with other direct service staff
  • • Make client referrals and network with appropriate agencies
  • • Remain abreast of current domestic violence laws
  • • Engage in activities to increase public awareness and education related to the issues of domestic violence
  • • Facilitate bilingual presentations to key community stakeholders on domestic violence, Courage Connection services, and immigrants’ rights
  • • Maintain compliance with all agency policies and procedures
  • • Attend all meetings and complete all forms and reports required by direct supervisor, funders, CEO or the Board
  • • Respect, consider and uphold confidentiality of clients as top priority at all times; maintain confidential client files; submission of confidential, accurate and timely documentation
  • • Carry out other duties as assigned or as necessary to ensure organizational success

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • • Minimum of two years of experience in social services. Experience working in an environment where the confidentiality of the clientele was of upmost importance required. Experience with case management.
  • • Experience providing advocacy and supportive services for victims of domestic violence preferred.
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with clients, staff and community partners
  • • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • • Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service
  • • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices
  • • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • • Fluent in English and Spanish

Physical Requirements:

  • • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards and agency policies
  • • Must be able to listen and speak clearly on the telephone
