ClarkLindsey, East Central Illinois’s award-winning retirement community, seeks the skills of a Evening Shift Leader for our dining operation. The ideal shift leader will be an individual experienced in leading aspects of kitchen operations in a health-care environment. Attention to detail, ability to follow process and procedures, and interest in supervising the activities of others to ensure compliance to ClarkLindsey's standards is required for this important position.

This is a full-time position. The typical schedule is 11:30am - 8:00pm Tuesday - Saturday.

Position Summary:

The Dining Services Evening Shift Leader is responsible for overseeing dining services aides during the closing shift, addressing any issues that arise according to rules/regulations and compliance standards, and ensuring a seamless transition of the kitchen environment and operation to the next team. This role ensures that all equipment is thoroughly cleaned, inventory is accurately stored, and the kitchen is fully prepared for the following day’s operations. This position will interact with team members, residents, vendors, guests, and others throughout the course of the shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the work of the dining aides during the evening shift including training, ensuring work quality, redirection, etc.
  • Responsible for buffet units and dining rooms, and assist with meal service as needed. Insure high food quality, proper food handling, food temperatures, portion control, timeliness of service, and diet accuracy.
  • Communicate with residents, staff, visitors, vendors and others in a professional, friendly way.
  • Show sound judgment rooted in established rules and regulations when it comes to making decisions related to day to day operations.
  • Keep up-to-date on regulatory standards for dining services operations. Share knowledge with team members and managers.
  • Conduct daily sanitation inspection (and other inspections as required by regulation) and assign follow up to employees based upon findings.
  • Ensure the Dining Services Department is operating in accordance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Receive and inspect deliveries for accuracy and quality.
  • Unload and properly store food deliveries in accordance with inventory procedures and food safety standards.
  • Assist with food preparation as needed.
  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Previous healthcare food service experience is required.
  • Must possess, or obtain State of Illinois Department of Public Health Sanitation certification.
  • ServSafe certification required within 30 days of hire. ClarkLindsey can assist with coordinating this process.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable of dietary procedures, as well as related laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to nursing home operations.
  • Must be able to use technology to communicate, document, inventory, etc. to effectively complete position responsibilities.

Working Conditions

  • Works in kitchen as well as throughout the facility and its premises.
  • Moves frequently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. under all conditions/circumstances.
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns, and cuts.
  • Is subject to sudden temperature changes when entering refrigerator.
  • May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures in kitchen/storage area.
  • May work around standing water.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Physical Requirements

(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 6 1/2 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and or carry such weight a minimum distance of 20 feet. Must be able to pull a loaded food cart a minimum distance of 200 feet.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be able to function independently.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and reaching.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Benefits and Compensation

The pay range for this position is $22.30 - $23.80 per hour, and is based on experience. Bonuses equaling up to 3% of salary annually are available based on performance, generally in the spring and fall each year.
