POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Catered Living and Memory Care assures that optimum care is provided to elders/residents/patients/clients (hereinafter, “residents”) by confidently leading the overall operation of MeadowLark Catered Living and Memory Care. This includes responsibility for ensuring excellent resident care, staff management, budgeting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Imagining, creating and maintaining a top-quality, supportive and enriching environment for residents with and without memory care needs is the overarching responsibility for this Director. The role ensures that despite the frequent shifting of priorities deadlines and goals, the highest standards of service and care are maintained. Success will be achieved when the director demonstrates the ability to create, maintain and continually improve an environment that exudes forward-thinking, compassion, and person-centered practices, especially for those with memory care needs.

The following is a portion of the responsibilities. The job description will be available at the time of interview.

A. Specific Duties

  • Ensure that staffing is attained within budget on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; ensure adequate staff coverage.
  • Develop and implement efficient processes to ensure resident safety.
  • Review and update application packets to remain within government guidelines and changes in department services.
  • Coordinate resident health information and services of Catered Living.
  • In coordination with the Sales and Marketing team, assess residents for Catered Living services, complete resident needs assessment and set up plan of service.
  • Ensure that resident medical records, medication MARS, and orders meet State and Federal regulations.
  • Exhibit emotional intelligence in interactions with residents, families, and staff, particularly in memory care setting.

B. Leadership and Management:

  • Select, lead, train, mentor, coach, evaluate and supervise the catered living and memory care staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and RAs and provide clear communication and direction concerning resident care and treatment.
  • Manage annual department budget and maintain the department within that budget.

C. Decision Making:

  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Frequently adapt to challenges requiring applying factual background and fundamental principles to the approaches and techniques for the solution of problems.

D. Communication

  • Effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals, both in and out of ClarkLindsey

F. Documentation

  • Complete required documentation, including evaluations, investigations, service plan entries, employee coaching, and correction in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine chart audits to ensure adherence to State and Federal guidelines.

G. Resident Care and Services:

  • Ensure that resident service plans are developed, implemented, and updated according to individual needs and preferences, with specific attention to memory care needs.
  • Oversee the coordination of medical care.
  • Address and resolve resident and family concerns, maintaining high levels of satisfaction and engagement.

H. Memory Care Programs:

  • In conjunction with others, design and oversee memory care programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for residents with dementia.
  • Ensure staff are trained in best practices for memory care and dementia support.
  • Ensure staff compliance with dementia specific education as required by State or Federal requirements.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for residents.

I. Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, including licensing and accreditation requirements for both catered living and memory care services.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

J. Community Relations and Marketing:

  • Represent the facility in community events and networking opportunities to promote services and build relationships.
  • In conjunction with the sales and marketing team, assist with development and implementation of marketing strategies to attract new residents.

K. Facility Operations:

  • Oversee daily operations of MeadowLark Catered Living and Memory Care, including regularly working with dining, environmental services, wellness, and other ClarkLindsey departments.
  • Ensure MeadowLark is safe, secure, and welcoming for residents, staff, and visitors
  • Address any MeadowLark issues or emergencies promptly.

L. Other Responsibilities:

  • Assumes on-call responsibilities and participates in the Manager On Duty program.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies. Implements appropriate safety and disaster measures for the protection of residents, visitors and staff.

Education and Experience

  • A strong understanding of dementia-related conditions and effective, appropriate care strategies is required for this position. Certification in dementia care (e.g., CDP, CADDCT) is preferred. Previous experience in memory care or dementia services is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a healthcare organization leadership of people and/or programs was part of the day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing, social work, healthcare administration, or related field, or equivalent professional experience in a leadership capacity. If a nurse, maintain a current comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
  • Familiarity with operational, financial, quality assurance, and human resource procedures and regulations required.
  • Experience with MS Office including Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.

Working Conditions

  • Works in office area as well as throughout the facility and its premises.
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. under all conditions/circumstances.
  • Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend and/or evening/night work, and is required to be on-call.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to provide supervision when needed.
  • Ability to learn and use technology.
