Job Summary: - Has excellent attention to detail.

- Has the physical strength and agility to push loaded book trucks, to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, to access high and low shelves, and to work on one’s feet for an entire shift.
- Assumes responsibility and works efficiently without direct supervision.
- Understands and follows detailed oral and written instructions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Passing score on shelving test.
- Prior successful working experience.
- Basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Prior experience with Polaris ILS.
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish, French, or Chinese).
- A successful applicant must be able to work the following weekly hours through the end of December 2025, at which point the schedule will be open for updates:
- Tuesday: 12pm-4pm
- Thursday: 12pm-4pm
- Saturday: 1pm-5pm

The Library Assistant 1 – Collections performs detailed clerical work that involves automated circulation of Library materials and maintenance of related files. The Library Assistant 1 – Collections routinely shelves books and other materials, checks in materials, retrieves items to fill requests, keeps material in proper order, empties the book returns, moves materials and furniture, runs errands, and performs other basic tasks related to the Library’s collections. Selection Process:
Scoring of Applicants. Each application that meets the minimum requirements will be scored, but first priority will be given to those applications submitted by the fullest consideration date. Your responses will be used to determine whether you possess the minimum qualifications required. Panel Interviews. At least two people will be present on the panels. Applicants will be asked a list of standard questions, but these questions don’t require prior preparation. In the interviews, we will want to learn about you, your experiences, and how you would function in a library setting. We expect to schedule these interviews in October 2025.
Contacting References. We will contact former employers of candidate finalists before making a decision.
Selection. Although selection is based on the successful completion of all of the above components, the nature of the selection process allows any single component to eliminate a candidate from further consideration. As a final step, the Library hires a candidate from those who are available to accept the position.
