Position Overview

The City of Champaign seeks qualified applicants for the position of Unpaid Intern with the Champaign Police Department for the Fall 2026 semester.

Internship Overview

The unpaid internship at the Champaign Police Department is an opportunity to observe certain activities of the department for educational purposes.

Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in ride-alongs to respond to calls for service.
  • Observation of witness and offender interviews.
  • Observing officers completing case paperwork, the booking process, and other activities stemming from calls for service.
  • Attending departmental meetings; and conducting research.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university of recognized standing.
  • Possess an average or above average record of accomplishment in the college courses completed at the time of selection.
  • Provide verification from current college or university that the unpaid internship is for college credit.
  • Successfully fulfill the requirements of the City's unpaid internship selection process.

Criminal background check is required. Applications for Fall 2026 internships must be submitted by May 31, 2026, for first consideration.
