Do you enjoy working on or tinkering with personal computers? Are you the go-to person friends and family contact when they need help with computer issues? If this sounds like you, then consider joining the City of Champaign as a Network Technician in the Information Technologies Department.
Responsibilities of Position
The Network Technician is a valuable resource for employees in all City departments. They do initial installation and configuration of new computers, associated equipment, and software. They are also the first line of support for users, providing instructions and troubleshooting problems which requires the ability to explain technical information to users at all skill levels. The Network Technician repairs personal computers, installs network cabling, tests connections, moves equipment, installs patches and upgrades to Windows PCs, purchases and maintains hardware and software inventory, and develops user instructions and other documentation. The Network Technician maintain daily work logs and provide excellent customer service to employees. Must be able to occasionally work outside of regularly scheduled hours to respond to provide computer-related support.
Required Qualifications
• Associate degree in Data Processing, Computer Science Networking, or a related field. Relevant certifications in operating systems support, application support, networking, or other relevant areas will be considered in lieu of degree.
• Experience with computer hardware and software installation, diagnostics, or repair.
• An equivalent combination of work experience and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
• Experience communicating and working with diverse groups of people.
• A current state-issued driver’s license and good driving record.
• The ability to perform the duties of the job including bending, stretching, crawling, climbing a ladder and lifting at least 50 pounds, with or without accommodation.Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with network support.
• User help desk experience.Drug screening, driving abstract, and criminal background check will be required. The annual starting salary range is $76,312 - $86,874, DOQ, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, August 24, 2025.
