Responsibilities of Position
The Digital Forensic Examiner works with advanced technologies, forensic concepts, software and tools to preserve and analyze digital and multi-media evidence related to Police Department investigations. Types of evidence examined includes computer hard drives, external drives, cell phones, network devices, information systems, tablets, and digital storage, to name a few. They analyze and interpret examination results, document conclusions in report form, maintain records, ensure proper chain of custody of digital and multimedia evidence and related property, and testify as an expert witness in court. This position may occasionally respond to crime scenes, including outside of regular work hours, to collect or advise in the collection of digital and multi-media evidence.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Forensics, Cyber Security or a related field OR Digital Forensic certification covering computer and cellular devices OR professional experience in digital forensic examination.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
• Current valid state-issued driver’s license and good driving record.
• Ability to perform the duties of the position including lifting 20 lbs., manual dexterity to use required hand tools, and flexibility to examine and retrieve evidence in tight or elevated locations, with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
• Digital Forensic certification covering computer and cellular devices.*
• Digital Forensic software tool certification* or forensic video examination.
• Experience with digital forensic examination or providing forensic support in a law enforcement setting.
• Experience in network configuration and management.
* Applicants without current forensic computer/cellular devices and software tool certifications must obtain them within an approved timeframe post-hire.
Drug screening, driving abstract, and criminal background check and investigation will be required. The annual starting salary range is $72,826 - $82,905, DOQ, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, October 13, 2024.
