Our Police Service Representatives make up the communications and records management center of the Champaign Police Department. They are the go-to subject matter experts in a wide range of areas. Why? Because, as the Department’s front line support staff, they receive and respond to all manner of questions and requests for information from officers, law enforcement agencies, and community members. As a team, they do this 24 hours/day, 365 days/year with each team member working an assigned shift with two consecutive days off per week.

Responsibilities of Position

Police Service Representatives are customer service, information, and data experts. They utilize multiple sources including specialized police-related computer systems to research, enter, retrieve, and analyze information. A LOT of information. Including following up on approximately 62,000 calls each year. And they share this information by phone, email and other written correspondence, radio, and in-person. They are in the know and a great resource to officers and community members – they answer questions, resolve issues, maintain records, monitor building security, and more, sometimes simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and accuracy and in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent training and experience.

• Ability to provide calm, courteous, and helpful customer service, at times in stressful or time sensitive situations.

• Ability to transition seamlessly between various tasks and return to task effectively if interrupted.

• Ability to perform data entry at 6,000 net keystrokes per hour (approximately 24 words per minute) with 90% or higher accuracy. Need to check your skill level? Search for “Free Online Typing Tests” for practice and timed tests.

• Ability to use spreadsheets and computer systems to access and retrieve information.

• Ability to review data and provide accurate summary.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

• Ability to work all assigned shifts, overtime, and holidays.

• Ability to obtain within six months of hire and maintain LEADS operator certification. Certification training, preparation, and support will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with administrative tasks such as records management, data entry, filing, multi-line phone systems, and preparing reports.

Drug screening and criminal background check is required. The starting salary is $26.22 per hour, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, August 18, 2024.
