General Summary of Duties

Christie Clinic's department of Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant/Scheduler at the Windsor clinic in Champaign from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with no night or weekend requirements.

Duties include checking patients out from the exam room and scheduling appointments/testing after their visit with their provider. The scheduler will also serve as a liaison between patients and medical support staff.

Job Qualifications and Expectations

JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all the duties assigned.)

  • Greet patients and visitors in an efficient, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Fill out radiology requisition forms.
  • Act as a liaison between Internal Medicine and other Christie Clinic departments to refer patients to specialized providers.
  • Schedule/place orders for tests, labs, appointments, etc.
  • Attend and participate in monthly department meetings.
  • Maintain Internal Medicine scheduler work list
  • Appropriate use of flag system per standard work.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment. Clean and restock following appointment.
  • Assist patient to exam room, take vitals, weight and height of patient. Enter information into the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc. and enter into the electronic medical record.
  • Assist with procedures during appointment including but not limited to paps
  • Fax forms, orders to nursing homes, etc. as directed by nurse. Sort faxes and distributes appropriately.
  • Administer injections as needed, as directed.
  • POCT including but not limited to urine dips and swabs
  • Maintain an organized work area. (Filing patient orders, routers, etc.)
  • Perform related work as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:

  • Order entry

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in the exam room and involves frequent contact with patients and exposure to communicable illnesses. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
