Overview
General Summary of Duties
Christie Clinic's department of Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time Insurance Specialist at the Windsor clinic in Champaign from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with no night or weekend requirements.
Duties include obtaining authorizations and any predeterminations for all Radiology/Laboratory exams and any outgoing referrals in accordance with established rules and procedures.
Job Qualifications and Expectations
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Obtaining all authorizations for all required imaging exams, labs and/or referrals through online insurance sites and through phone calls.
- Updating insurance information, authorization status, and any other pertinent information.
- Correspondence concerning insurance status or retro authorizations with appropriate personnel.
- Check Inbasket regularly for authorization requests or follow up questions from referring offices.
- Provide insurance guidance to team members or providers. Demonstrate understanding of insurance requirements.
- Attend Christie Clinic sponsored classes for changes to insurance requirements in the electronic medical record and individual carrier updates.
- Act as a liaison between Internal Medicine and other Christie Clinic departments in order to refer patients to specialized providers for internal and external referrals.
- Schedule tests, labs, appointments, etc.
- Attend and participate in daily, weekly, monthly department huddles.
- Maintain Internal Medicine scheduler work list by effectively prioritizing both current and follow up patients.
- Maintain an organized work area. (Filing patient orders, routers, etc.)
- Perform related work as required.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting for prolonged periods of time. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical setting and involves contact with insurance carriers, radiology personnel, and various clinical team members. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
