General Summary of Duties

Christie Clinic's department of Purchasing and Warehouse is seeking a full-time Buyer at the Market Street Warehouse in Champaign from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (flexible schedule), with no night or weekend requirements.

The Buyer is responsible for supporting Christie Clinic’s purchasing and supply chain operations by procuring products, equipment, and services that meet organizational needs while ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and continuity of supply. This position serves as a key resource to departments throughout the organization by managing vendor relationships, evaluating sourcing options, coordinating procurement activities, and identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings. Under the general direction of the Purchasing/Materials Manager, and the Purchasing Administrative Coordinator, the Buyer exercises independent decision-making and serves as a trusted partner in supporting the organization’s operational and financial objectives.

Job Qualifications and Expectations

POSITION DUTIES: (This list may not include all duties assigned.)

  • Procure products, equipment, and services in a timely and cost-effective manner while ensuring quality, service, regulatory compliance and continuity of supply.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders to support organizational purchasing and operational objectives.
  • Solicit quotations, perform price comparisons, evaluate purchasing options, and identify opportunities for cost savings and value improvement.
  • Conduct purchasing analyses and review product utilization, market trends, and pricing to support informed purchasing decisions.
  • Monitor product availability and proactively address supply shortages, backorders, substitutions, and other supply chain disruptions to maintain continuity of operations.
  • Support contract compliance, vendor evaluations, product standardization initiatives, and implementation of organizational procedures.
  • Create, process, track and maintain purchase orders and related procurement documentation; investigate and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Coordinate with vendors, departments, and Fiscal Services to facilitate purchasing transactions, payment processes, financing arrangements, and issue resolution.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including inventory optimization, cycle counts, stock level monitoring, and replenishment planning.
  • Generate and maintain reports, records, spreadsheets, and performance metrics to support departmental goals and decision-making.
  • Provide technical assistance and purchasing guidance to team members and departments consistent with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain proficiency in procurement, inventory, warehouse and financial systems, including Pairsoft Workplace, Great Plains, Capital Expense Requests (CERs), contracts, and maintenance/service agreements.
  • Participate in meetings, projects process improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Performs all tasks in a manner which recognizes the value of positive customer and team member relationships.
  • Work with vendors to manage supply chain costs, continuity of supply, capacity flexibility, and delivery performance
  • Monitor metrics to ensure that orders meet established delivery times and comply with invoice terms and established contracted pricing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years purchasing or inventory management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business related field
  • Experience in purchasing or inventory management in one or all the following commodity groups: medical/surgical supplies and equipment, pharmaceuticals, clinical and research supplies, lab supplies, computer systems, and furniture and fixtures.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:

  • Valid Illinois State Driver’s License

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting to 50lbs. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a warehouse setting and involves frequent contact with a variety of individuals. Although quite seldom, requirements may include traveling to satellite locations and irregular hours.

The estimated pay range for this position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related criteria.
