Overview
General Summary of Duties
Christie Clinic's department of Laboratory is seeking a full-time Department Administrative Assistant with varied hours from Monday-Friday 7:00am-5:30pm and occasional Saturdays at the University clinic. This position may require the need to travel to other Lab locations to support the department.
Provide a variety of secretarial duties, as well as specific lab department related tasks to the Laboratory Manager.
Job Qualifications and Expectations
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

Perform basic secretarial/clerical duties.

Answer routine Laboratory inquiries.

Answer telephones, take messages and provide departmental information to appropriate sources.

Triage phone calls when appropriate to Laboratory personnel.

Schedule patient appointments and protocol specific procedures.

Bill patients for Pathology testing.

Prepare Reference Laboratory bills for payment.

Order office and clinical supplies. Assist in the care and maintenance of office equipment.

Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information.

Check in patients and verify and update necessary information in the medical record. Assist patients with ambulatory difficulties.

Process specimens and orders from Satellite Locations.

File Laboratory orders and reports.

Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.

Perform related work as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent

Two years experience in a medical office setting (Additional appropriate education may be substituted for medical office experience)

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work may require sitting for long periods of time. Also, stooping, bending and stretching for files or supplies may be necessary. Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds may be required. Hearing must be within normal range and vision correctable to 20/20. It may be necessary to view and type on a computer screen for long periods of time. Work may be stressful.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a reception area. Frequent contact with patients and other employees is constant and interruptive. Exceptional customer service is expected.
