Overview
General Summary of Duties
Christie Clinic's department of Dermatology is seeking a full-time Mohs Lab Technician at the University clinic from Monday-Thursday 7:00am-5:30pm, with no night or weekend requirements.
Duties include performance of skills through the delivery of patient care using a systematic patient assessment and delivery of services recommended under the direct supervision of a licensed medical physician.
Job Qualifications and Expectations
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all duties assigned.)
- Opens Mohs laboratory for daily operation, checks temperatures on equipment, and documents in proper charts.
- Receives tissue specimens. Checks for correct orientation and patient identification.
- Logs tissue and patient information in logbook and assigns accession number to specimen.
- Processes tissue for frozen sectioning.
- Labels slides with patient/specimen information, sections tissue, labels slides with patient/specimen information, stain slides, and coverslips slides.
- Checks final slides for complete sections prior to placing them along with patient chart on surgeon’s desk. Notifies surgeon when slides are ready.
- If sectioning on slides is not sufficient, starts another slide for surgeon’s review.
- Logs all incoming consultation slides and prepares slides for surgeon.
- Pulls charts/slides for surgeon’s review, at surgeon’s request.
- Files Mohs and Permanent Section slides.
- Maintains order and compliance to safety regulations in laboratory.
- Updates and completes all CLIA compliance charting. Notifies lab director of any changes and documentation.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous healthcare experience
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
- CPR Certification
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 75 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, a normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office and surgical equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical office/medical spa atmosphere with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids and other waste common to a health care environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
