Medical Assistant - OB/GYN

Christie Clinic's department of OB/GYN is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant from Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm at the University Clinic. This position may include travel, with mileage reimbursement, to various locations to support the OB/GYN department including Danville, Monticello, Rantoul, Tuscola, and Mahomet.
Duties include performance of skills through the delivery of patient care using a systematic patient assessment. Certified Nurse Assistant Certificate and/or graduation from an accredited program for medical assistants and previous health care experience is highly preferred.
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment. Clean and restock exam rooms per standard work.
- Assist patient to exam room, take vitals, weight and height of patient. Enter information into the EMR.
- Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, gyne, social history as needed, etc. and enter into the EMR.
- Appropriate use of flag system per standard work.
- Perform chart preparation according to department and provider standards.
- Assist provider with minor procedures.
- Complete lab order entries and appropriately handle patient specimens.
- Perform, document and bill in-house testing, i.e. urine pregnancy test/ chem 10 following achieved competency training
- Maintain obstetrics records and documentation of labs.
- Schedule follow up appointments as needed
- Maintain Active Pregnancies Report according to the department standard work
- Obtain fetal heart tones as directed by the provider
- Initiate NST as directed by the provider
- Maintain relevant office supplies for department effectiveness.
- Forward appropriate items to HIS for scanning.
- Attend and participate in department huddles.
- Perform related work as required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 75 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, a normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office and lab equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids and other waste common to a health care environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
