Christie Clinic's department of Cardiology is seeking a full-time or part-time RN/LPN from Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm at the University Clinic, with no night or weekend requirements.

Duties include the provision of professional nursing care for clinical patients following established standards and practices. Nursing experience in Cardiology or a related field is preferred and possession of (or in the process of an obtaining) an Illinois State Nursing License is required.

JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with nursing standards and as directed by provider.
  • Prepare equipment and aid provider during treatment, examination and/or testing of the patient.
  • Observe, record and report patient’s condition and reaction to medication and/or treatment, to provider.
  • Act as a liaison between the patient and provider regarding complaints, concerns, etc.
  • Act as liaison and care coordinator between Christie Clinic Department of Cardiology and external facilities such as Cardiac Cath labs, Electrophysiology consults and many other types of cardiac/medical needs. These could be within the clinic or at various outside facilities.
  • Provide instructions and education to patients and their family regarding medications, treatment instructions, diet education, cardiac device usage and procedural instructions regarding cardiac procedures and various other tests/orders.
  • Have the ability to provide instruction and education to patients regarding lab values and cardiac testing results along with orders provided as a result of these tests and values.
  • Demonstrate the ability to respond to triage calls using nursing assessment skills and report findings/recommendations to providers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete telephone encounters and workque tasks as assigned by Cardiology Coordinator/Manager.
  • Assist in codes and nurse alerts.
  • Start IV’s and administer IV medications.
  • Perform EKG’s
  • Perform Cardiac Diagnostics testing such as Event Monitors, provide patient education regarding these monitors and their use.
  • Perform related work as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Evidence of annual completion of health related courses and/or seminars with a certificate and/or CEU’s

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 50 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a clinical setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids and other waste common to a health care environment. Ionizing radiation and medicinal preparations are also common. Requirements may include working irregular hours which could be as early at 7:00am and as late as 6:00pm.
