Description

Under the supervision of the Technology Manager, the Library Technology Assistant provides prompt and friendly technical support and applies practical knowledge in installing, diagnosing, replacing, and maintaining computer hardware, software, peripherals, circulating devices, makerspace equipment, as well as some server/network devices. Provides AV support for customers and staff.


The schedule includes mainly evenings shifts with some weekend shifts possible.

Open until filled, with first review of applicants starting October 13, 2025.

Examples of Duties

  • Installs, troubleshoots, upgrades, repairs, and replaces hardware and software; provides technical support for PCs, Macs, Chrome OS, iOS, and Android devices.
  • Manages user accounts to support onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Delivers audiovisual (AV) support for both customers and staff.
  • Monitors network filtering systems to ensure proper functionality and security.
  • Maintains library-specific hardware and software, including public reservation and printing systems, automated checkout systems, and materials handling systems.
  • Works with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  • Participates in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology and safety training
  • Provides excellent internal and external customer service
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Excellent computer hardware and software skills in a Windows environment. Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot PCs, Macs, handhelds, and related hardware and software.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and customer service skills
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work with library customers and staff in a friendly and efficient manner
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel or public
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and regular schedule
  • Ability to issue guidance and ensure compliance with the Library’s Rules of Conduct and policies
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and varying work schedule
  • Good vision and hearing to engage effectively with customers
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer and phone equipment
  • Physical ability to lift or push up to 40 pounds to move carts, carry and install computer equipment
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving history, and personal automobile for job-related transportation
  • Satisfactory pre-employment background check

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Associate degree or two years of college required
  • Associate degree in network administration and support or computer information systems preferred
  • Three or more years of experience with Windows servers, computers, network devices and peripherals, including installation and maintenance required
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
