Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Marketing Manager produces content across multiple platforms, including newsletters, signage, and the website. They coordinate public relations activities and ensure consistent messaging that aligns with the library’s mission and goals. With the assistance of the Director and Deputy Director, the Marketing Manager will work with all library departments to develop effective strategies for raising awareness of library initiatives and presenting information about the library to the public. This position also serves as a member of the management team.

- Develop and implement marketing plans for library events and initiatives
- Produce engaging content for the library’s website, social media, newsletters, library’s annual report, other communication channels
- Manage media relations, including drafting press releases, coordinating media coverage, and responding to inquiries
- Ensure consistent branding across all materials
- Design and create digital and physical signage
- Promote library events and initiatives
- Engage with community partners and stakeholders
- Collaborate with library staff on marketing needs
- Manage the marketing budget
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain marketing materials, prints, graphics, and services
- Provide the Library Friends and the Library Foundation with graphics needs including donor collateral, email campaigns, and storefront needs for the FriendShop Bookstore
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies as needed
- Work closely with library staff to support their marketing and promotional needs
- Foster relationships with community partners and stakeholders to enhance the library’s outreach efforts
- Assists with training staff and volunteers
- Contribute to the library profession through local and/or national professional associations
- Participates in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology and safety training
- Provides excellent internal and external customer service

Requirements

- Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media, email marketing, and content management systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of graphic design and proficiency with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite)
- Skill in copy editing and proofreading
- Proficiency with workplace productivity software, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient with web page design
- Experience with both Windows and Mac operating systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong commitment to public service
- Excellent interpersonal skills for team collaboration
- Outstanding oral and written communication, including public speaking
- Ability to provide guidance and ensure compliance with library policies
- Proficient computer skills
- Reliable attendance and adherence to a regular schedule
- Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and work schedules
- Manual dexterity for operating computer and phone equipment
- Ability to train staff in new technologies
- Satisfactory pre-employment background check
Acceptable Experience and Training
-
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field required
- Two years of experience using graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is required
- Two years of experience in marketing or publicity required
- Experience using website design software required
- Knowledge of library services and the role of public libraries in the community preferred
- Experience in event planning and promotion preferred
- Familiarity with SEO and web analytics tools preferred
- Some knowledge of Spanish and/or French is helpful
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
