Youth Theatre Music Director
Champaign Park District – Part-Time 2 (hours not to exceed 19 per week), Non-Exempt
About the Job:
Bring your passion for music and theatre to life as a Youth Theatre Music Director with the Champaign Park District. In this role, you’ll inspire young performers ages 8–18 while guiding music instruction for 4–5 annual productions. Working closely with our Youth Theatre team, you’ll help shape high-quality, age-appropriate performances that leave lasting memories for participants and audiences alike.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and direct music for assigned productions
- Conduct vocal and instrumental rehearsals, coaching participants on technique and musicianship
- Accompany rehearsals and live shows on piano or approved instruments
- Lead and supervise volunteers assisting with music preparation and direction
- Collaborate with the Theatre Director on casting and artistic direction
- Provide feedback to participants to support skill development
- Communicate rehearsal schedules and updates to parents/guardians
- Ensure rehearsal and performance spaces are safe and ready for use
- Attend production and staff meetings as required

Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience teaching music and theatre.
- Experience working with children.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to teach musical styles appropriate to each production.
- Ability to conduct a small pit band or orchestra.
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment for rehearsals (preferred) and live performances.
- Ability to plan and lead recreational activities for children.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, participants, and the public.
