Description

Summary

The Box Office & Concessions Staff provide customer service, ticketing, and concessions support at the Virginia Theatre. They assist patrons with ticket sales, event inquiries, and concessions purchases, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all guests.


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must have some customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated organizational and cash handling skills.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with the public and staff.

Supervision

The Box Office & Concessions Staff position reports to the Patron Services Manager.


Classification

  • Non-Exempt, hourly
  • Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week)

Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District

  • First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification
  • Heads Up Concussion training
  • Harassment prevention training
  • Bloodborne pathogen training
  • Recreation software system training
  • Ticketing software training
  • Illinois Food Handlers Certification
  • Facility training

Essential Functions

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, and fellow employees.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist patrons with ticket sales, will-call pickup, and seating inquiries both in advance and on event days.
  • Process phone, online, and in-person transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of theatre events, ticket pricing, and seating policies to provide accurate information to patrons.
  • Oversee concessions operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels for concessions, tracking stock, sales, and restocking as needed.
  • Troubleshoot ticketing system issues and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive guest experience at all touchpoints.
  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physiological Considerations

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during events.
  • Frequent walking, bending, and reaching to assist patrons and restock concessions.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 lbs., including concession supplies and ticketing materials.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a point-of-sale system, handle cash, and process transactions accurately.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Environmental Considerations

  • Exposure to varying temperatures due to proximity to concession equipment and storage areas.
  • Work in a loud, crowded environment during events.
  • Frequent interaction with the public requiring strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts required based on event schedules.
  • Possible exposure to food allergens, cleaning chemicals, and strong odors in the concessions area.
