Description

Summary

The Water Polo Coach is responsible for the total operation of the Sholem Water Polo Team.

Practice times are Tuesday and Thursday from 10:45am - 11:45am. Coach must prepare and be present for all practices.


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Previous coaching experience
  • Knowledge of water polo training techniques.
  • An understanding of water polo principles is required.
  • A knowledge of water polo rules and regulations is preferred.
  • Patience and positive attitude.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with public and staff and work harmoniously with people in an enthusiastic manner.

Supervision

The Water Polo Coach reports directly to the Aquatics Manager.


Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District

  • First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification
  • Heads Up Concussion training
  • Mandated reporter training
  • Harassment prevention training
  • Bloodborne pathogen training
  • Recreation software system training
  • Drivers training and test
  • Facility training

Essential Functions

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Organize and plan daily team practice sessions efficiently, ensuring structured and effective training for team members.
  • Take responsibility for preparing meet entries, distributing timely match information to participants, and managing any other tasks associated with water polo matches.
  • Communicate with parents of swimmers, gaining their cooperation in hosting swim meets, purchasing team awards, organizing team social events, and managing other projects or responsibilities.
  • Supervise inventory of equipment and proactively submit orders to the Aquatics Manager for necessary supplies and equipment before they are needed.
  • Coordinate and communicate team activities or problems to the Aquatics Manager to address special needs and concerns effectively.
  • Develop a weekly practice schedule and maintain accurate attendance records, ensuring organized and documented team activities.
  • Assist with the upkeep of the equipment storage space, contributing to the organized and efficient storage of swim team equipment
  • Wear the assigned Champaign Park District uniform during all working hours, maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies and procedures.

  • Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to engage with swimmers physically during training sessions are crucial for effective coaching.
