Description

Summary

The Youth and Teen Program Coordinator is responsible for executing high-quality programs, emphasizing safety, and enhancing participant experiences. This role involves coaching staff, managing schedules, fostering creativity, and contributing to program development.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports, Tourism, or related field, or four (4) years’ of experience in the field
  • Must have at least one (1) year of successful recreation programming
  • Demonstrated ability to market agency’s program and/or events using a variety of means
  • Demonstrated management skills in staff supervision
  • Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent skills in planning and organizing activities, programs, and events
  • Ability to problem solve promptly, efficiently and effectively
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite or similar programs
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, budget, plan, and implement projects with multiple deadlines
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License with clean driving record

Supervision

The Youth and Teen Program Coordinator is responsible to the Youth and Teen Program Manager. The Youth and Teen Program Coordinator supervises part-time and seasonal staff and volunteers.

Essential Functions

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • In Conjunction with Youth and Teen Manager and Marketing Department, develop and distribute all promotional materials for youth and teen programs and events.
  • Execute youth and teen programs to the highest standard, striving to provide exceptional experiences for all participants.
  • Prioritize the safety of youth and teens by meticulously implementing and upholding the Park District's safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of seasonal and part-time staff, offering constructive feedback and recommendations for staff development.
  • Efficiently schedule and manage part-time and seasonal staff to ensure proper staffing levels and support for program activities.
  • Creatively develop new ideas for daily activities within existing programs, continually enhancing participant experiences.
  • Work closely with the Youth and Teen Manager to explore opportunities and strategies for expanding the youth and teen programming portfolio.
  • Support the Youth and Teen Manager in creating and managing the budget for programs, including cost analysis and expenditure tracking.
  • Generate weekly program reports and other reports as assigned, offering insights and data to inform decision-making and program improvement.

Physiological Considerations

  • The job may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and participating in physically demanding activities, necessitating good physical stamina and fitness.
  • Must be able to lift supplies and equipment (approximately up to 40 lbs) when needed

Environmental Considerations

  • Some programs may take place outdoors, so candidates should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to outdoor environments.
  • The role may involve working in a shared office environment, requiring comfort and proficiency in an office setting for administrative tasks and coordination.
