Description

Summary

The Pool Manager is responsible for the efficient operation and administration of Sholem Aquatic Center or any other Champaign Park District aquatic facility.


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Obtain Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor (can be obtain through the Park District prior to hiring).
  • Knowledge of swimming pool or water facility operations including mechanical functions, financial practices, scheduling, programming, and pool rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public and staff and work cooperatively with the public and fellow employees in an enthusiastic manner.
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge of water safety and lifeguarding techniques.

Supervision

The Pool Manager reports directly to the Aquatics Manager


Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District

  • Mandated reporter training
  • Harassment prevention training
  • Bloodborne pathogen training
  • Facility training
  • Maintain Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification and Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Vanguard training through Ellis & Associates

Classification

  • Non-exempt, hourly
  • Seasonal (not to exceed six (6) months)
    • Season is May to September

Essential Functions

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Collaborate with the Public Health Department to ensure compliance of aquatic facilities with established standards.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate lifeguards to maintain a highly skilled and well-organized team.
  • Organize and schedule ongoing staff pre-service and in-service training sessions to enhance lifeguard skills and knowledge.
  • Supervise daily operations, special events, safety education, and facility rentals to ensure a comprehensive and well-coordinated aquatic environment.
  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the pool and/or aquatic center, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Maintain meticulous records of attendance, weather, accidents, water conditions, pool maintenance, and other relevant information.
  • Submit required reports promptly and comprehensively, providing necessary information as per regulations.
  • Conduct frequent inspections of water facilities and operations, promptly addressing safety hazards, and communicating mechanical problems to the Director of Operations and Aquatics Manager.
  • Maintain positive public relations with other agencies, parent groups, Champaign Park District personnel, and the general public.
  • Supervise inventory of equipment and submit orders for supplies and equipment to the Aquatics Manager proactively.
  • Enforce and adhere to Champaign Park District policies and procedures consistently.
  • Wear the assigned Champaign Park District uniform during all working hours for a professional and cohesive appearance.
  • Keep the Aquatics Manager informed of any employee relations matters for timely resolution.
  • Handle all first aid and/or water emergencies with competence.
  • Work as scheduled to complete all assigned duties efficiently.
  • Assist with special events and contribute to daily facility upkeep as needed.

Physical Considerations

  • Require physical mobility and endurance to oversee daily operations, conduct facility inspections, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
  • Physical capability to handle first aid and emergency situations, supporting lifeguards and patrons in need, and demonstrating leadership during crises.
  • May be exposed to pool chemicals.

Environmental Considerations

  • Pool Managers must adapt to working outdoors, being exposed to varying weather conditions while overseeing pool and aquatic center operations.
