The Program Director plans and leads programs, maintains proper risk management procedures for children, youth and teens in After School Programs. Activities that may take place in an After-School program include, but are not limited to crafts, outdoor play, cooking and field trips.

This position will run in the fall and spring seasons. The Program Director is a part-time seasonal employee.

The Program Director is responsible to the Program Coordinator for which programs you work. The Program Director is responsible for the supervision of the leaders, volunteer staffs and children at assigned program areas.

• Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
• Develop program plans for each program and review the plan with the Program Coordinator
• Completely plan and lead the program from beginning to end including gathering/purchasing supplies and equipment
• Organize and supervise all activities
• Complete all necessary paperwork as required including attendance, evaluation forms, notes to parents, or teachers, and accident/incident reports
• Turn in complete accident, incident, and conduct report within 24 hours to the Program Coordinator
• Attend staff meetings as assigned
• Communicate on a regular basis all progress, problems, concerns, or suggestions to the Program Coordinator
• Notify Program Coordinator immediately of any illness or injury, which may conflict with program responsibilities
• Approach all activities and participants with an enthusiastic and positive attitude at all times.
• Supervise assigned volunteers
• Assist in evaluating program leaders and volunteers assigned to programs
• Assist with conducting staff training and orientation
• Maintain and monitor site first aid kit
• Notify Program Coordinator of additional first aid supplies needed
• Prepared to stay after the program to clean up and wait till parents pick up participants
• Director must arrive 30 minutes prior to the program and stay through the end of parent pick up
• Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous materials
• Evaluate the program based on participant, staff, and/or parent evaluations

• The Program Director must be self-motivated
• Must be able to provide creative problem solving and programming
• May feel stress from being held responsible for the comprehensive programs
• May feel stress due to pressure of changing schedules and behavior problems
• Must resolve differences with leaders, volunteers, and customers
• Must be flexible and able to respond to multiple demands and short deadlines
• Ability to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of Champaign Park District

• This position requires a flexible schedule during evening and weekend hours on occasions
• Respond quickly and accurately
• Must be able to be physically active (e.g. extensive walking and weekend hours on occasion, etc.)

• May be exposed to all weather conditions

• Must be able to represent the district in a positive manner
• Should exercise creativity and resourcefulness in developing and implementing projects
• Must possess good safety awareness, judgment, and problem-solving skills
