Description

SUMMARY

As a Guitar Instructor, you will provide personalized instruction tailored to students of all ages and skill levels. Your primary responsibility will be to guide students in developing fundamental techniques, enhancing musical literacy, and exploring a diverse range of musical styles. Students are required to bring their own fretted instrument (guitar, ukulele, bass, mandolin, banjo) to each lesson. Lessons are 30 minutes in length and meet once per week. Students who wish to have a longer private lesson may register for more than one time slot.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to plan and lead age appropriate activities in area of expertise
  • May require proof of certification when appropriate
  • Previous teaching experience with references
  • CPR and First Aid certified if applicable
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public
  • POSITIVE CAN DO TEAM ATTITUDE

SUPERVISION

Special Interest Instructors report to the Program Coordinator (or designated staff) for their assigned program. Special Interest Instructors do not supervise other staff members


CLASSIFICATIONS

  • Non Exempt, hourly
  • Part-time

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
  • Submit program outline to Program Coordinator at least two weeks (and preferably one season) before class begins
  • Assist supervisor in developing brochure copy to describe class
  • Help promote class with publicity approved and/or produced by the Marketing Department
  • Request roster one week prior to start date and check attendance minimums
  • Plan, organize, and implement the class in area of expertise
  • Attend and lead each class or provide a make-up class
  • Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and general public
  • Maintain accurate budget of all class expenses
  • Responsible for the purchase, maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies
  • Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants
  • Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with the Program Coordinator regarding all situations concerning the program, participants, and staff
  • Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and parents
  • Maintain records of program operations including participant files, incident/accident reports, attendance and sign-out sheets
  • Notify all program participants of schedule changes or cancellations
  • Distribute participant evaluations at the conclusion of the program
  • Complete an instructor evaluation when requested

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attend all required meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • The Special Interest Instructor is responsible for safe and well-organized programs in area of expertise
  • The Special Interest Instructor must be able to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Champaign Park District

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • The Special Interest Instructor may need to respond quickly and accurately
  • Must be able to be physically active to effectively teach in area of expertise

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • May be exposed to hazardous art and craft chemicals
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions
