About the Role: The Champaign County Humane Society (CCHS) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Shelter Veterinarian (SV) to join our dedicated team. This full-time position plays a key role in maintaining the health and well-being of animals in our care and ensuring the highest standard of shelter medicine. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Shelter Manager, the SV oversees medical care and disease prevention for a diverse population of shelter animals. Responsibilities include diagnostics, treatment planning, surgical procedures (including spay/neuter), and mentoring medical staff. We strive to achieve the ideals set forth by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians’ Guidelines for Standards of Care, and are proud to support a progressive, open-admission shelter that serves companion animals of all types and conditions. Key Responsibilities: Perform physical exams, diagnose conditions, and provide medical and surgical treatment for shelter animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, other small mammals, birds, and reptiles); Conduct and/or supervise all surgeries, including spay/neuter for shelter animals and public clients through our low-cost program; Develop, implement, and update protocols to prevent disease and ensure animal well-being; Work closely with the medical team, including a surgical assistant, medical lab supervisor and five additional medical staff; Attend leadership meetings to review animal health status, contribute to SOP and protocol updates, and provide staff training.
