Classification: Full-time; This is a temporary, 36-month position. While the role is designed to address current project needs, there may be opportunities for reassignment to other departments upon completion, depending on organizational requirements and the employee's performance. This potential transition is not guaranteed and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Work Location: Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve (Mahomet, IL) with regular travel to all District sites.
FSLA: Non-Exempt

Pay: Grade 6: $21.35-$30.95, starting pay at base of range
Hours: Typical work hours are 6:30am-5:00pm, Monday through Thursday unless otherwise scheduled. Some evenings, weekends, and holidays will be required depending on operational needs.
Essential Functions
- Represent the Forest Preserves in a professional manner and follow rules of conduct.
- Must also be able to demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment; must work around general population; and work under supervision and direction of supervisors.
- Inform appropriate authority if the public or employees are in danger.
- Perform carpentry, plumbing or electrical tasks to advance facility construction, maintenance and repair. May include equipment and vehicle maintenance.
- Skillfully and safely use and maintain tools of the trade, both powered and non-powered, as well as various hand tools. Examples of equipment and hand tools include, but are not limited to: chain saws, trucks, tractors with attachments, blowers, vacuums, shovels, rakes, hammers, picks, saws, and power hand tools.
- Ability to learn to read and understand blueprints.
- Operate Forest Preserve District vehicles.
- Perform inspections of facilities and equipment.
- Be available for overtime work upon request.
- Perform duties under varied seasonal conditions.
- Communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public orally and in writing.
- Assist in the Forest Preserves’ responsibilities of compliance with ADA.
- Possess CPR/AED and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Construction Worker II
- Supervise the daily work of seasonal employees, interns, and/or volunteers.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Basic knowledge and two years’ experience in a like position with similar duties and responsibilities are required.
- High school graduate required. Under certain circumstances, extensive direct experience may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Aptitude for on-the-job training.
- Must demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment.
- A valid Illinois driver’s license of the appropriate classification is required.
- Current CDL License or ability to obtain within 1-year of employment is preferred.
Work is primarily performed outdoors under various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, or ice. Duties will be performed in close proximity to the general public and the employee may have frequent interactions with patrons. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to hazardous flora and fauna (e.g. poison ivy, wild parsnip, biting/stinging insects, ticks) and chemicals (e.g. cleaning supplies, herbicides/pesticides, and gasoline/oil). The employee may also be exposed to machinery with moving mechanical parts and high noise levels.
Normal duties may include stooping, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Prolonged standing or walking, often on unpaved/uneven terrain, will be frequent. The employee may regularly handle, grasp, or feel objects; reach, push, or pull to reposition items; and may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds using assistive devices or with assistance from other employees. Ability to talk and hear or otherwise effectively communicate with staff and patrons is required. Visual acuity necessary for this position includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Use of personal protective equipment will be required based on job specific tasks. This may include, but is not limited to, the following items:
· Work boots
· Protective gloves
· Safety goggles or glasses
· Chaps
· Earplugs or ear covers
· Reflective vest or hi-vis shirt
· Respirators or masks
· Helmets
