    Summary
    The Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center provides safe, humane and secure temporary custody for juveniles pending court proceedings, or those who have been adjudicated on delinquent charges. In addition to ensuring the safety of youth while in secure care, the Department provides a wide range of programming to address the physical, educational, emotional and social needs of the resident population, offering officers the opportunity to utilize their knowledge and skills to effect positive change in the lives of at risk youth. The behavior management program utilized at the Center is a group-based, behavior modification system that allows youth to be rewarded for positive behavior and positive behavioral change and helps shape new behavior by reinforcing ‘small steps' along the process of change. The position requires officers to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts can vary from 9 hours to 11 hours.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • Must be a citizen of the United States
    • Must be a resident of the State of Illinois within 90 days of appointment
    • Must pass a background check
    • Possess a valid driver's license
    Compensation
    • The starting salary is $52,435.50.
    • The starting salary is set by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police and is not subject to change.
    • Experienced candidates with prior employment as a Probation Officer may be eligible to start at a higher rate of pay based on their experience.
