    Job Title
    : Court Services Officer (Full-Time, Non-Exempt)
    Location: Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center
    Department: Probation and Court Services
    Reports To: Assistant Superintendent
    Summary
    The Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center provides safe, humane, and secure temporary custody of juveniles pending court proceedings, or those who have been adjudicated on delinquent charges. In addition to ensuring the safety of youth while in secure care, the Department provides a wide range of programming to address the physical, educational, emotional, and social needs of the resident population, offering officers the opportunity to utilize their knowledge and skills to effect positive change in the lives of at-risk youth. The behavior management program utilized at the Center is a group-based, behavior modification system that allows youth to be rewarded for positive behavior and positive behavioral change, and helps shape new behavior by reinforcing "small steps" along the process of change. This position requires officers to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts can vary from 9 hours to 11 hours.
    Qualifications
    • Have a minimum of 60 credit hours from a university, college, or community college preferably with major course work in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, or related social service -or- have a high school diploma with at least 2 years' prior employment in law enforcement or experience in a residential care, specialized care, or detention facility.
    • Be at least 21 years of age.
    • Be a citizen of the United States.
    • Be a resident of the State of Illinois within 90 days of appointment.
    • Pass a background check.
    • Possess a valid driver's license.
    Compensation
    • The starting salary for this position is $52,435.50 annually.
      • The starting salary is set by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police and is not subject to change.
      • Experienced candidates with prior employment as a Probation Officer may be eligible to start at a higher rate of pay based on their experience.
