A Design Engineer on the Large Aftertreatment team is responsible for developing a design that meets customer requirements, supports the design control product strategy, aligns to the performance recipe, and its manufacturable by the supply base. Working with other engineers and contract or offshore engineers on the same team, they will develop a design through the standard work of APQP, NPI, and CPI. This will include cascading requirements to tech specs, interface analysis, ownership of DFMEA, boundary conditions for analysis, creating the BOM structure, guiding the packing/space claim of the design, ownership of component costs, supplier process development and quality, and system integration within the scope of the design control.
Job Duties/Responsibilities for a Design Engineer may include, but are not limited to:
- Design a variety of engine aftertreatment components and working in a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer requirements
- Develop design solutions for regulation, functional, durability, reliability, and manufacturing requirements
- Own component cost and working with suppliers, PCE’s and buyers to optimize designs
- Support FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs
- Development of drawings to meet Caterpillar standards and other technical data to support the release of parts
- Present at design reviews with on schedule, completed staff work (ref: DAV Body of Work)
- Support field and production issues on root cause/ICA/PCA
- Collaborate with global suppliers, lead PCE’s and buyers to make sure proper supplier resilience of different aftertreatment components
- Support worldwide facilities with large aftertreatment global footprint strategy
- Lead aftertreatment cost reduction projects to meet product cost target
- Communication to peers, team leader and stakeholders with good teamwork
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant Engineering Technology curriculum
- 5+ years of design engineering experience, professional experience in mechanical component design, validation or testing experience
- Strong knowledge of CREO for modeling and detailing
- Excellent written & oral communication skills in English
- Good interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills to develop a cooperative working relationship with others inside and outside the department

- Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
- Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Additional Information:
The position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
