Overview

The Director of Philanthropy Operations serves as a key member of the Center for Philanthropy's executive leadership team, responsible for aligning strategy, operations, and resources to maximize Philanthropy's mission-driven impact. This role provides high-level oversight of operational functions, including finance, human resources, compliance, technology, and organizational infrastructure, while ensuring effective execution of strategic initiatives.

The Director will be both a strategic thinker and an operational leader—capable of designing systems, implementing processes, and leading teams that strengthen the Center for Philanthropy's efficiency, accountability, and ability to adapt in a changing philanthropic landscape. Working in close partnership with the Vice President and leadership, the Director ensures that the Center for Philanthropy's vision is translated into sustainable practices and measurable outcomes.

  • Hybrid - must be present in the Urbana, Illinois office 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Vice President to develop, refine, and implement the Center for Philanthropy’s multi-year strategic plan, translating strategic goals into operational objectives, timelines, and success metrics.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure the Center for Philanthropy operates efficiently, effectively and collaboratively across all functional areas, enabling effective program execution and evaluation.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve systems, policies, and procedures that enhance transparency, accountability, and compliance.
  • Ensure that technology platforms, data systems, and administrative processes effectively support fundraising and organizational growth.
  • Integrate data-driven decision-making across the Center for Philanthropy to enhance transparency and accountability.

  • Develop and manage risk management strategies, including legal, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Partner with the finance team to manage the Center for Philanthropy’s operating budget, fund management and accounting processes, ensuring strong financial health and sustainability.
  • Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and resource allocation aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements, including those specific to nonprofit foundations.
  • Establish organizational performance measures, dashboards, and reporting tools that track outcomes and impact.
  • Support scaling of programs and initiatives by ensuring the necessary operational capacity and infrastructure.
  • Invest in staff development by implementing professional growth opportunities, succession planning, and training.
  • Build and sustain a positive organizational culture grounded in collaboration, trust, equity, and innovation.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Vice President in preparing materials and reports for the Philanthropy Board of Trustees, including performance metrics, financial updates, and operational assessments.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Management, Business, Finance, Accounting, Non-Profit, or Related

Work Experience:

  • Philanthropy - 3 years
  • Leadership - 1 year

Other Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic database systems.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge preferable.
  • Strong management skills
  • Ability to influence, engage, and coach direct reports and peers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to meet deadlines.

Salary Range

The compensation range for this position is $38.11per hour - $65.55per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
