JOB SUMMARY:
Sign on Bonus Available
$5,000 less than 1yr of experience
$10,000 greater than 1yr of experience
Relocation Bonus Available
$2,500 relocation (for greater than 50 miles)
Bonus money available to External Applicants Only
The Lead Histotechnician performs routine laboratory procedures in accordance with established departmental policies. They will train new employees, be responsible for validating and maintaining new assays, and provide day to day leadership in the use and maintenance of histology technology and instrumentation, and review department policies and procedures for accuracy. The Lead Histotechnician must have a high initiative with proven troubleshooting skills in major areas of Histology and must maintain high standards in all aspects of departmental and laboratory functions.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree in Biological science or related field or Certificate in HT(ASCP) certification

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Histotechnician Certification (ASCP) within 2 years.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years experience as certified technologist in a laboratory setting.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must possess knowledge and proficiency in all aspects of tissue processing, including equipment troubleshooting, IHC and validations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensures area personnel are appropriately trained to support on-going routine production. Ensures training is completed as scheduled and properly documented prior to the individual testing and reporting patient results.
  • Ensures competency is completed, as scheduled, by periodic review of competency documentation.
  • Leads QA compliance efforts and responds/investigates issues and ensures that corrective or preventive actions are taken.
  • Ensures all equipment is fully functional and maintained for testing.
  • Develops performance metrics and uses data to monitor key lab processes.
  • Manages inquiries/requests for supporting documentation regarding data, test methodologies, new test codes, worksheets, and other internal customer/client needs.
  • Acts as a department resource in the absence of the department supervisor serving as a technical resource.
  • Ensures the efficient operation of workstations and areas of responsibility to ensure timely resulting of quality data.
