Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Ophthalmic Supervisor maintains shift accountability for daily operations and delivery of patient care through leading and mentoring staff as delegated by the manager. Serves as an expert resource to department staff, provides direct patient care, and assists with personnel action, staff development, evaluation and counseling.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Completion of Medical Terminology course within one (1) year of start date in position.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within thirty (30) days of start date in position. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification must be obtained within two (2) years of start date in position.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) Related Field

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Basic understanding of the interpersonal and team dynamics. Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team in the provision of quality care and innovative programs. Knowledge of accreditation standards and demonstrated ability to interpret their application. Strong commitment to quality and customer focus. Flexibility and capability to lead a group through rapid change. Excellent clerical skills and attention to detail. Must be able to perform complex and varied tasks, sometimes in stressful situations. Independent judgment required. Strong communication and customer service skills and respect for confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in the training and orientation of all new employees as assigned.
  • Identifies daily staffing needs in accordance with budget and target guidelines. Proactively reviews future schedules (next day, three days, and one week in advance) to anticipate the need for staffing adjustments. Manage and monitor schedules for changes.
  • Performs same duties as direct reports.
  • Monitor the Kronos timecards for shift personnel, entering exceptions and approving timecards as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for personnel related duties that include interviewing, disciplinary actions, payroll reporting, scheduling paid leave, and enforcing requires rules and regulations. Monitors employee performance and ensures timely communications for the purpose of goal setting, performance evaluations, wages increases and continued personal actions.
  • Monitors internal processes and controls and report problem areas. Makes recommendations for improved procedures/processes to enhance department accuracy and efficiency.
  • Creates weekly schedule for OA’s/Photographer
  • Provides Annual appraisals and mid-year check-ins
  • Handles Kronos and discipline for OA's/Photographer
  • Assists with budget creation
  • Assists with maintenance contracts
  • Expert in all diagnostic functions
  • Serves as a back-up to manager
