Your Role:

The R&D Lab Tech supports the formulation and product development activities of the R&D team. This role assists the chemists with sample preparation, benchtop testing, data recording, and inventory management, while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory.

Job Title: R&D Lab Tech

Reports to: R&D Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare and weigh raw materials, batches, and protype samples according to formulas and lab instructions provided by R&D Chemists.

• Perform routine bench-top testing such as viscosity and stability checks.

• Maintain accurate, organized records including batch sheets, lab notebooks, sample logs, and testing data in compliance with departmental procedures.

• Label, organize, and maintain inventory of raw materials, components, and finished prototype samples; assist with reordering and stock checks.

• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, glassware, and work areas.

• Assist with preparation of samples and materials for trials, panel testing, or customer requests.

• Follow all safety protocols, SOP’s, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) when handling chemicals.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, ABILITIES and EDUCATION:

  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures, terminology, and safe chemical handling practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measuring, weighing and record-keeping.
  • Ability to follow written formulas, instructions, and standard operating procedures precisely.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related scientific field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Prior hands-on lab experience (school, internship, or professional) involving weighing, mixing, or basic analytical testing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic lab equipment (scales, pH meters, viscometers) is a plus but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is primarily performed in a laboratory and office environment.
  • Must be able to work safely around laboratory equipment, pressurized systems, and chemical fume hoods.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
  • May be required to wear required PPE.

COMPENSATION:

The salary for this role is $50,000 - $55,000 per year.
