Job title: Quality Control Microbiologist

Reports to: Quality Control Laboratory Manager

Job summary: As a subject matter expert the microbiologist will oversee controls of all microbiology laboratory procedures and assist with designing the overall hygiene practices of the production environment.

Supervision level: Operates independently with periodic reporting.

Essential Functions:

• Must demonstrate full function and knowledge of micro lab tech I, II, & III.
• Perform preservative efficacy testing and reporting.
• Responsible for all microbial out of spec investigations and resulting corrective actions with assistance from micro tech III.
• Assist with continuous improvements of microbial test methods.
• Responsible for validating microbial test methods.
• Responsible for designing test method performance qualifications for micro lab personnel.
• Assist the sanitation department with designing appropriate hygiene controls of the production environment.
• Perform additional duties as directed or assigned by management.

Skills, Abilities, and Education:

• Must poses skills, abilities, and education as defined in micro lab tech I,II,&III.
• Advanced degree in Microbiology or other natural sciences strongly preferred.
• Minimum of three years’ experience working in a microbiology laboratory or functional equivalent.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.

Special Consideration:

• Knowledge of cosmetic and OTC drug production regulations such as PCPC, FD&C, ISO, FCC, cGMP, USP are strongly preferred.
