APL Engineered Materials, Inc. manufactures specialty inorganic solid chemicals for use in conventional lighting, radiation detection and energy-related applications. We have an exciting opportunity for a Production Chemist in Urbana, Illinois.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Production Chemist to join our team and help us build safe, high-quality products. If you are a self-motivated individual with experience in chemistry or chemical engineering, we would like to hear from you.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Perform chemical synthesis of high purity inorganic halide compounds.
• Use glass systems, high temperature furnaces, reactive gases, vacuum systems for manufacturing chemicals.
• Develop new products and assist in improving existing products under general supervision.
• Assists with development of written procedures.
• Provide and manage a safe, accident-free work environment. Follow all company safety rules in performing job duties.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills, analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational ability and documentation.
• Strong safety and continual improvement mentality.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.

• Proficient in MS Office.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 1-3 years of experience in an industrial environment. Candidates with a MS/PhD degree will not be suitable for this position.
• Experience with handling glassware, high temperature furnaces, reactive gases, vacuum pumps, dryboxes, ovens, gases is highly desired.

• Experience handling moisture sensitive materials is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs is necessary.
