Job Title: Shift Supervisor

Department: Production Department

Reports To: Production Manager

Status: Full-Time/Exempt

Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of Production Technicians and Line Leads engaged in operating a variety of machines to manufacture parts or products. May also supervise other personnel that directly support production related activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises 25 to 45 employees on a Production Shift. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Salary Information:

Minimum Hiring Rate: $76,388/year Maximum Hiring Rate: $80,000/year
Monthly Bonus opportunities up to 9% of base monthly pay

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees production staffing and work assignments to ensure production needs are met.
  2. Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  3. Communicates and escalates production process, equipment, materials, or personnel problems or concerns as appropriate in an effective, professional, and timely manner.
  4. Bi-Weekly check in for new hire trainees with trainee and PGT to document progress and additional training requirement to obtain proper certifications.
  1. Coordinates with other Operation Team members to develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve safety, production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  2. Ensures product quality through proper oversight of the production process, as well as by advocating quality and providing effective coaching.
  3. Serves as a mentor to Line Leads. This may include being job shadowed during their shifts and giving guidance/training to the Line Leads on performing their daily tasks.
  4. Completes administrative and recordkeeping tasks in a timely manner, including time and production records and vacation/overtime requests.
  5. Ensures employee safety by advocating safe behavior through the enforcement of safety policies and procedures.
  6. Communicates daily and long-term goals to employees.
  7. Works in a safe manner, following all safety policies and procedures while keeping in mind other’s safety as well.
  8. Reports any accidents and potentially unsafe conditions or unsafe acts immediately to appropriate AFSI personnel.
  9. Conducts safety incident investigations involving production personnel.
  10. Provides performance management for direct reports through the clear communication of expectations; provides timely written and verbal feedback including discipline, positive recognition, and scheduled performance reviews; identifies employee development opportunities.
  11. Participates in daily inter-shift meeting, performs regular “walk-throughs” of the lines and the facilities, and communicates with other Shift Supervisors at shift exchange.
  1. Must make the necessary arrangements to be accessible by phone and email on a reasonable, as-needed basis outside of set work hours to support the needs of production, maintenance, or direct reports.
  1. Responsible for driving effective 6S and general housekeeping practices.

  • Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Language Skills:

Can read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Can write routine reports and correspondence. Can speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Mathematical Skills:

Can add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software; Fourth Shift Manufacturing software; Kronos Timekeeping software.

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Current Fork Truck license.

  • Other Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to work an 8-hour shift and possible weekends. Can handle multiple assignments at once and communicate effectively within all levels of the organization.
