Visiting Teacher Collaborator, College of Education

Center for Education in Small Urban Communities, College of Education

The Visiting Teacher Collaborator will work in partnership with K-12 teachers, district and school leadership, university faculty, and other professional staff to plan and deliver high quality professional development in area school districts.

  
TEACHING AND LEARNING
  • Assist teachers in developing the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need (e.g., deeper understanding of content, expertise in providing differentiated instruction, expertise in using assessment to guide instruction) to be successful in small urban schools
  • Support the integration of research-based methods, materials, and instructional strategies by working with teachers in ways that reflect best practice in instructional coaching, including co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, debriefing, and peer observations
  • Collaborate with district administrators and teacher leaders to design and support professional development initiatives
  • Facilitate large, cross-district professional development events, such as summer academies

ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Required to track day-to-day professional development activities
  • Develop on-going protocols for delivering effective professional development
  • Administer surveys and comply with other data collection requirements
  • Develop and submit reports as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in education with an emphasis in math, reading/literacy, or other core subject areas.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of classroom experience.
  • Designing and implementing professional development activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in coaching teachers, serving as teacher leaders, or mentoring teachers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of data collection, analysis, and usage to ensure high fidelity implementation of instruction, and intervention
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Confident and charismatic with a strong commitment to diversity and school improvement
  • Highly proficient in both content and pedagogical knowledge
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines while being efficient, effective, and detail-oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with teachers across multiple classrooms, buildings, and districts

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis subject to continued availability of funding and programmatic need. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closing. Salary is commensurate with experience.
